Having certain items in your home is much like having a piece of history from a long, by-gone era in your midst. It is fun and interesting to know the background surrounding collectibles you may have picked up at a local flea market, great vacation or that you inherited from a friend or relative. This is especially true of items marked "Made in Occupied Japan." Items with the marks "Made in Occupied Japan" (M.I.O.J.) or "Occupied Japan" (O.J.) were produced in the seven years right after WWII when United States forces occupied Japan - namely 1945 - 1952. As Japan was attempting to resurrect their economy, an agreement allowed them to export goods but 50% of them had to be marked "MIOJ" of "OJ". There were approximately 50,000 different objects made by the Japanese including everything from tea sets, china, vases and figurines. Even figurines that you would guarantee were made at a European porcelain factory, but were in fact "Made in Occupied Japan"! As the items have become more popular and are more sought after, the prices have gone up. We have a very nice collection here on our web site that you can also see for yourself in our store.
